Actividad física y tiempo sedentario en residentes de medicina durante rotaciones nocturnas en programa de guardias

En este estudio se realizó un análisis secundario de datos para evaluar la actividad física, el tiempo sedentario y su relación con el índice de masa corporal, en 16 residentes de medicina de la Universidad de Puerto Rico durante guardias en turnos nocturnos. Los participantes realizaron 111.6 ± 32.9 min/día de actividad física moderada a vigorosa y el tiempo sedentario (7.7 ± 1.8 horas/día) no fue mayor de lo que se considera riesgo para la salud (p= .23). Se infiere que el alto nivel de actividad física moderada a vigorosa posiblemente contrarresta el posible riesgo asociado al tiempo sedentario. No hubo correlación entre el índice de masa corporal, la actividad física moderada a vigorosa y tiempo sedentario (p >0.05), lo que sugiere que esta característica antropométrica no hace diferencia entre quienes realizan mayor o menor actividad física, o quienes tienen mayor o menor tiempo sedentario.
