dc.description.abstractMetacognition involves the monitoring, regulation, and evaluation of one’s own cognitive processes and is known to enhance educational outcomes and retention in students (Bruin & Van Gog, 2012). This study assessed metacognitive practices among college students at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, by administering existing metacognitive questionnaires and conducting follow-up semi-structured interviews with a subset of participants. Through methods triangulation, the study sought to provide insights into the metacognitive characteristics of these students. The findings contribute to the limited field research on metacognition in Puerto Rico and indicate an adequate level of metacognitive awareness and responsiveness, with areas for improvement in sub-components such as evaluation.en_US
dc.description.abstractLa metacognición implica el monitoreo, regulación y evaluación de los propios procesos cognitivos y mejora los resultados educativos y la retención en los estudiantes (Bruin & Van Gog, 2012). Este estudio evaluó las prácticas metacognitivas entre los estudiantes universitarios en el recinto de Río Piedras de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, administrando cuestionarios metacognitivos existentes y realizando entrevistas semiestructuradas de seguimiento con un subconjunto de los participantes. A través de la triangulación de métodos, el estudio exploró las características metacognitivas de estos estudiantes. Los hallazgos contribuyen a la limitada investigación de campo sobre la metacognición en Puerto Rico e indican un nivel adecuado de conciencia y capacidad de respuesta metacognitiva entre los estudiantes, con áreas para mejora en subcomponentes como las estrategias de evaluación.en_US
