Imágenes de canguros y koalas carbonizados por los fuegos en Australia, islas enteras arrasadas por huracanes de categoría cinco en Bahamas y Puerto Rico, olas de más de 15 metros de altura destrozando las construcciones litorales y los paseos marítimos en la región oriental de España por la tormenta Gloria, entre muchas otras se quedan grabadas en nuestras retinas. Junto con esas imágenes, los titulares de las noticias internacionales hablan de Greta Thunberg y de la lucha de las nuevas generaciones. Esas son las “futuras generaciones” a las que se refería la definición de la sostenibilidad del Informe Brundtland, las generaciones que ya no debaten sobre si el cambio climático es una realidad o no porque ya empiezan a sufrir sus consecuencias.
Nos enfrentamos a uno de los mayores retos de la humanidad, y darle solución es de una dificultad extrema ya que exige de un enfoque multidisciplinar y de un cambio de planteamiento de nuestro modo de vida. Los esfuerzos en política internacional no son suficientes y no se prevé que las medidas que se están adoptando actualmente sean capaces de responder a esta emergencia climática.
Encontrar nuevos enfoques o líneas de pensamiento que ayuden a elaborar políticas que combatan el cambio climático son de gran interés para la comunidad científica y para la humanidad en general.
Sabemos que una de las causas que nos ha llevado hasta esta situación no es otra que la avidez humana, y la supremacía del individualismo. Es ese individualismo, el mismo que ha permitido que el WELLNESS sea una nueva tendencia, y uno de los pocos sectores en continuo crecimiento.
¿Podrá un modo de vida saludable reducir nuestro aporte antropogénico al cambio climático?, ¿Será este modo de vida un catalizador para encontrar soluciones a nuestro reto global?;
La presente tesis ha logrado responder a esas preguntas utilizando diferentes metodologías e incorporando el necesario enfoque social para el planteamiento de soluciones para luchar contra el calentamiento global. Mediante la comparación del aporte al cambio climático de dos regiones con diferentes estilos de vida en el planeta, he podido demostrar que la respuesta es positiva y por lo tanto afirmar que: llevar un modo de vida saludable puede ser nuestro mejor aliado para combatir el cambio climático.
