La comunidad indígena en Puerto Rico : Proyecto testimonial hacia la autorrepresentación de su cultura y religiosidad

Abstract

This project is directed towards the protection and promotion of the indigenous historical legacy in Puerto Rico. It consists of the creation of three audio documents in collaboration with people who work for their self-representation as descendants of the indigenous population who lived in Puerto Rico upon the arrival of the Europeans. As an anecdotal information resource, it will preserve their stories and their encounter with the Taino faith and culture. These people have an elaborate system of religious beliefs and ritualistic practices that involve the worship of Cemí spirits and their stone representation. Just like their ancestors, they have a system of social order within their Beike with the position of the chief who leads the tribe.

Este proyecto se dirige hacia la protección y promoción del legado histórico indígena en Puerto Rico. Consiste en la creación de tres cápsulas en audio en colaboración con grupos y personas que trabajan por su autorrepresentación como descendientes de los indígenas que poblaban a Puerto Rico a la llegada de los europeos. Como recurso informativo anecdotal preservará sus historias y su encuentro con la fe taina y la cultura. Estas personas tienen un sistema elaborado de creencias religiosas y prácticas ritualistas que envuelven la adoración de los espíritus cemíes y su representación de piedra. Igual que sus antecedentes tienen un sistema de orden social dentro de su Beike con el puesto del cacique que lidera la tribu.
