dc.description.abstract | My thesis is a translation of Doralba Linda Pérez Ibáñez's dissertation En Clave de mujer: La construcción de la subjetividad femenina en el Caribe. This text discusses how Caribbean women are affected by various discourses, emphasizing on how they affect women's bodies. In order to sustain her arguments, Pérez Ibáñez analyzes several stories written by Caribbean female writers. I have selected the second chapter and the first part of the third chapter for my translation where Pérez Ibáñez discusses the short story "The Youngest Doll" by the Puerto Rican writer Rosario Ferré and the first part of the novel En diciembre llegaban las brisas by the Colombian writer, Marvel Moreno. The main focus of this chapter is the medical discourse and how women are replicators of the oppressions that they suffer. The first part of the third chapter is an introduction to the novels I Gave You All I Had by the Cuban novelist Zoé Valdés and La Estrategia de Chochueca by Rita Indiana Rita Indiana Hernández. Although these novels are not properly studied in my translation, it is expressed that the next discourse that will be analyzed is political. En Clave de mujer is a text that expresses through literary works relevant situations that have been present in society for generations. It creates awareness while promoting Caribbean literature. | en_US |
