From 1950 to 1970, Puerto Rico began the design and construction of more than 300 residence complexes for low-income families. The sites chosen and the urban planning strategies applied, granted a lifeline for thousands of families by providing adequate housing. Even though it improved their housing quality, these vast clusters of residences lacked some services needed to satisfy the residents' needs nowadays. For this reason, I will be studying different solutions to improve on the low-income housing model of the 1950s. To answer this question, I will be researching the history of housing in Puerto Rico and low-income housing case studies in Puerto Rico and abroad. The information obtained from this investigation will be used as critical elements and guidelines to achieve a low-income housing design in Coamo Puerto Rico, allowing families to own property, providing a source of equity.en_US
