dc.description.abstract | Después de la devastación generalizada que dejó el huracán María en Puerto Rico, el magisterio estuvo activo, más allá de la academia, regresando a sus labores docentes a la vez que manejaban sus propias pérdidas materiales, humanas y el riesgo de deterioro de su salud mental. Con este estudio de caso múltiple se exploró a profundidad las narrativas de ocho docentes, las acciones realizadas por seis docentes, una directora y un director, durante la emergencia y luego de esta. Buscamos describir, documentar y destacar cualitativamente el alcance del trabajo de los docentes como líderes, intercesores, curriculistas y promotores del bienestar social y emocional en sus comunidades escolares y encontrar aquellas acciones que constituyen factores de protección. Se reconoció la diversidad de los contextos geográficos, demográficos y sociales en el que se dieron las acciones. El magisterio asumió un rol de promotor de salud social-comunitaria para detectar y atender las necesidades apremiantes de las familias de los estudiantes, promoviendo actividades culturales y prestando ayuda a otras escuelas de manera voluntaria. Cada contexto escolar elaboró un plan único que incluyó las dimensiones bienestar psicológico y social, compromiso, liderazgo e iniciativa, intersección de servicios, redes de apoyo comunitario y comercial, entre otros. La construcción de factores protectores se ha convertido en un paradigma social de autogestión y sostenibilidad. A pesar de la insuficiente acción del Estado, el magisterio resultó ser primero en responder en sus comunidades escolares y liderar acciones que promovieron la resiliencia crítica. | en_US |
dc.description.abstract | After the widespread devastation left by Hurricane María in Puerto Rico, the teaching profession was active, beyond the academy, returning to their teaching work while managing their own material and human losses and the risk of deteriorating their mental health. With this multiple case study design study, the actions carried out by six teachers and two principals during the emergency and after it were explored in depth in the narratives of eight teachers. We seek to qualitatively describe, document, and highlight the scope of teachers' work as leaders, intercessors, curriculum designers, and promoters of social and emotional well-being in their school communities, and find those actions that constitute protective factors. The diversity of the geographic, demographic and social contexts in which the actions took place was recognized. The teachers assumed the role of promoter of social-community health to detect and attend to the urgent needs of the families of the students, promoting cultural activities and providing help to other schools on a voluntary basis. Each school context developed a unique plan that included the dimensions of psychological and social well-being, commitment, leadership and initiative, intersection of services, community and commercial support networks, among others. The construction of protective factors has become a social paradigm of self-management and sustainability. Despite the insufficient action of the government, the teachers turned out to be the first to respond in their school communities and lead actions that promoted critical resilience. | en_US |
