Abstract
The effect of different composts and a commercial mix as substrates was studied in sunflower and marigold in pots. Two studies were conducted to evaluate four levels of electrical conductivity (1.3, 3.4, 4.7 y 6.7 mS/cm), in coffee compost, chicken manure compost and Promix in a RCBD with factorial treatment arrangement. Observations included stem height and circumference, flower diameter and plant fresh and dry weight at 15, 30 y 45 days after transplanting from cell trays to pots. In general terms, plant performance of sunflower and marigold in treatments 1, 2 and 3 (coffee compost mixes) was superior to treatments 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 (chicken manure compost and Promix). A survey of market preferences was also conducted: consumers preferred low prices, large plant size and an easy place to buy plants as well as other items (supermarket).
