Abstract
This study focuses on the literary genre known as microfiction, characterized by its extreme brevity, and how it contributes to creating a social imaginary. It examines several aspects of this genre, including its historical development and its formal characteristcs. Upon examining its history, form and manifestations, as well as its relationship to other literary genres, the study explores the possible applications of creative writing (specifically microfiction) within therapeutical contexts, not only as a means to foster and stimulate the creative process, but to provide means of self-exploration and reflection, in order to help people undergoing crises to achieve a better understanding of their own process. Ultimately, the study proposes that microfiction, applied in this way, may produce cathartic effects, which should help the individual purge their feelings about difficult experiences and, perhaps, move on.
