Los carteles del Taller de Cinema y Gráfica de Parques y Recreo Público y la representación de la gestión modernizadora del gobierno de Puerto Rico: 1946-1949

Abstract

The Workshop of Cinema and Graphics of Parks and Public Recreation of Puerto Rico, was a government-run institution in charge of educating the inhabitants of the rural areas of the island and leading them in a modernization process that the island was about to experience. In 1946, under the direction of Edwin Rosskam, Jack and Irene Delano and other plastic artists, the poster-making tradition began with silk-screen reproductions with themes of hygiene, health, education and politics. The purpose of this research work is to study the connection, communication process, message and design presented on the posters. This work has an analysis of 15 posters based on the essay on the rhetoric of the Image by Roland Barthes and the definition of modernity presented by Bernardo Subercaseaux.
