Encore : elegía y melancolía en versos lusos y británicos

Abstract

El objetivo de la presente disertación es interpretar y comparar tres poemas anónimos compuestos en el inglés antiguo y tres poemas portugueses del poeta Fernando Pessoa. A partir de estos poemas desvelamos el desarrollo de una trayectoria de exilio interior y exterior de los artistas aquí estudiados quienes sostenemos poseen temáticas estéticas y éticas en común como es por ejemplo la intensa presencia del mar en sus imaginarios, y el sentimiento de melancolía y nostalgia expresado en el espacio de una escritura creativa. El mar evoca a los poetas recuerdos de un pasado que fue y que ya no está. La poesía creada por estos artistas intenta dar cuenta de esta falla, de este vacío que ellos experimentan en su exilio interior y exterior. Fundamentan esta disertación estudios de autores como Sigmund Freud, Giorgio Agamben, Iris Zavala, Martin Green, Patrice Hannon e Isabel Verdaguer que reflexionan sobre exilio, melancolía y elegía. Los resultados de la presente investigación resaltan la relevancia del tema de la escritura como espacio de creación, el tema del exilio interior sobre todo a partir del tema del mar, literal y metafórico que exalta memorias pasadas en lo que constituye un espacio atemporal.This investigation aims to analyze and compare three Old English anonymous elegies and three poems by the twentieth-century Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa. From these poems we uncover great traits in common regarding their experience of interior and exterior exile, and we sustain that these poets/poems share common themes aesthetically and ethically speaking, particularly as concerns the strong attachment and attraction towards the Atlantic Ocean, a common historical and literary ground for both cultures: English and Portuguese. The sea evokes memories from a past that is no longer there. The poems that these artists write attempt to re-create an imaginary bridge between past and present when the present is in a state of desolation, melancholy, exile and solitude. The present study is grounded in texts by Sigmund Freud, Georgio Agamben, Iris Zavala, Martin Green, Patrice Hannon, Isabel Verdaguer. They reflect upon exile, elegy, and melancholy. The present study exalts the relevance of the theme of writing as a space of creation and as a space of inner exile. In the present particular case, the ocean as metaphor and material atemporal space functions as a motor that inspires artistic creation.
