Expresión humana, madera y tierra: diseño de una infraestructura como medio para el fortalecimiento del tejido social y la propagación y preservación cultural de prácticas artísticas en el pueblo de Morovis, Puerto Rico

Abstract

La presente investigación explora la relación entre infraestructura funcional y preservación cultural como vía para fortalecer el tejido social en Morovis, Puerto Rico. Actualmente, diversas tradiciones musicales y artísticas del municipio se desarrollan mediante actividades y eventos culturales realizados en espacios del casco urbano, mientras que gran parte de los talleres y programas formativos tienen lugar en el Centro Cultural Diógenes Colón. Sin embargo, los espacios existentes presentan limitaciones para atender las necesidades contemporáneas de estas prácticas. Por ello, se plantea analizar las necesidades que aún no son atendidas por la infraestructura cultural actual y proponer un espacio adaptado a prácticas como la lutería, la cerámica y la producción musical, que permita enseñar, desarrollar y preservar estos saberes ancestrales. Asimismo, el proyecto busca fomentar un modelo económico autosustentable mediante la fabricación y venta de productos culturales elaborados por la propia comunidad —incluyendo tanto bienes artesanales como el talento musical local— y su exposición en las plazas y espacios culturales del casco urbano.This research explores the relationship between functional infrastructure and cultural preservation as a means to strengthen the social fabric in Morovis, Puerto Rico. Currently, various musical and artistic traditions in the municipality are carried out through cultural activities and events held in public spaces within the urban core, while many workshops and educational programs take place at the Diógenes Colón Cultural Center. However, the existing spaces present limitations in addressing the contemporary needs of these practices. For this reason, the project proposes analyzing the needs that remain unmet by the current cultural infrastructure and developing a space adapted to practices such as lutherie, ceramics, and music production, enabling the teaching, development, and preservation of these ancestral forms of knowledge. Furthermore, the project seeks to promote a self-sustaining economic model through the creation and sale of cultural products crafted by the community—including both artisanal goods and local musical talent—and their exhibition in the plazas and cultural spaces of the urban core.
