The role of ICT on employment and international trade

Abstract

The convergence of advanced technologies and industrial progress has been a hallmark of human advancement, with each era marked by transformative innovations. This research amalgamates insights from two distinct research endeavors, each elucidating critical facets of technological integration in shaping the future of manufacturing, employment dynamics, and internationalization in both Latin America and the United States. Firstly, exploring the Fourth Industrial Revolution underscores its objective of revolutionizing manufacturing processes, rendering them more intelligent, autonomous, and responsive through data-driven decision-making. It investigates the correlation between technological competitiveness, education, and policy coordination during the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It focuses on Latin America to evaluate technological competitiveness and the integration of disruptive technologies in various industries. The study assesses the challenges and opportunities of technological integration, aiming to enhance competitive advantages and prepare the workforce for new demands.

Concurrently, the research examines the impact of investments in information and communication technologies on job creation and product exports across 21 manufacturing sectors in the United States, utilizing data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Economic Census, and USA Trade® Online. Findings indicate that such investments enhance internationalization opportunities and boost job numbers, contributing to a broader understanding of technology's role in economic growth and employment in manufacturing industries. By synthesizing findings from both studies, this abstract emphasizes the universal significance of technology integration in reshaping manufacturing paradigms while advocating for strategic policy interventions and skill development initiatives to navigate the transformative impacts of emerging technologies on the global workforce.
