Abstract

Puerto Rican young people in the diaspora have limited resources to read young fiction about their home country in their first language: English. This youth needs written works that contain Puerto Rican references and identity. The aim of this translation project is to invite more young English-speaking people to read and get interested in Puerto Rican authors and stories, as well as to demonstrate that Puerto Rican young fiction can be as impressive and interesting as fiction from any other country. The goal of translating Club de CaLaMiDaDes to English is to reach Puerto Ricans in the diaspora, so that they can have something to relate to and inspire them to dip into their culture, and learn more about the island.
