Abstract
Este proyecto se propone como un documental que entrevistará a diversos productores y directores de festivales de cine, así como a cineastas y miembros activos de la industria cinematográfica. El objetivo es comprender el funcionamiento de los festivales de cine para el desarrollo de la industria cinematográfica puertorriqueña. La premisa central del documental es que la organización de festivales de cine en Puerto Rico sería fundamental para impulsar la industria del cine nacional. El proyecto abordará cinco aspectos principales: la expresión creativa en los festivales de cine, explorando las plataformas y la creatividad tanto de los cineastas como del público; la promoción del cine independiente, especialmente para los cineastas emergentes que suelen enfrentar dificultades para llegar a audiencias más amplias; la interacción entre los festivales de cine y la comunidad, involucrando a cineastas emergentes, espectadores y profesionales de la industria; el papel de los festivales de cine en la educación y promoción de la cultura cinematográfica, destacando la importancia de la historia del cine, las teorías cinematográficas y el pensamiento crítico; y, por último, cómo los festivales de cine logran su éxito al combinar los beneficios que ofrecen con las contribuciones de los cineastas y productores en dichos eventos.
This project aims to be a documentary that will interview various producers and directors of film festivals, as well as filmmakers and active members of the film industry. The objective is to understand the functioning of film festivals for the development of the Puerto Rican film industry. The central premise of the documentary is that the organization of film festivals in Puerto Rico would be fundamental to boost the national film industry. The project will address five main aspects: creative expression in film festivals, exploring the platforms and creativity of both filmmakers and the audience; the promotion of independent cinema, especially for emerging filmmakers who often face difficulties reaching larger audiences; the interaction between film festivals and the community, involving emerging filmmakers, spectators, and industry professionals; the role of film festivals in education and promotion of film culture, highlighting the importance of film history, film theories, and critical thinking; and, finally, how film festivals achieve success by combining the benefits they offer with the contributions of filmmakers and producers in these events.
