Nutriendo de cultura a nuevas generaciones: espacios para la transmisión gastronómica

Abstract

The transmission of Puerto Rican gastronomic culture is facing a generational gap due to factors such as globalization, changes in lifestyle, and the lack of spaces that promote intergenerational learning. This research addresses the issue from a comprehensive approach that combines theory, community participation, and contextual analysis, with the goal of developing a project that preserves cultural identity through gastronomy. The essence of the project lies in creating a space for transmitting culinary knowledge by fostering connections between generations and shared experiences around cooking, encouraging learning, collaboration, and respect for traditions. To bring this vision to life, the design integrates strategies such as the creation of central courtyards that serve as hubs of interaction, the implementation of flexible spaces for workshops, events, and intergenerational gatherings, and the incorporation of elements inspired by Puerto Rican tradition, such as fogones (traditional outdoor stoves) and areas for preparing typical dishes. The project also encourages visual connections and accessible pathways to the central courtyard, local markets that support the community economy, and green areas that promote the learning of traditional agricultural practices. This holistic model is positioned as an essential tool to preserve and revitalize Puerto Rico’s gastronomic heritage, strengthen community bonds, and promote cultural identity.
