Abstract

Preservamos el periódico La Esquina, reconociendo su valor como testigo de las vivencias, luchas y logros de las comunidades del municipio de Maunabo y del área sureste de Puerto Rico. No solo protegemos el papel impreso; protegemos la memoria colectiva de un pueblo que ha narrado su historia desde sus propios márgenes. Digitalizamos y catalogamos cada edición para conservar este patrimonio cultural, asegurando que las crónicas locales, testimonios ciudadanos, eventos históricos y expresiones artísticas estén disponibles para futuras generaciones. Al convertir estos documentos en archivos digitales, garantizamos su permanencia frente al deterioro físico y facilitamos su acceso a investigadores, estudiantes y ciudadanos interesados en conocer su pasado. Este archivo visual y textual funciona como un puente entre el ayer y el hoy, permitiendo que las voces del pasado dialoguen con el presente. Al salvaguardar La Esquina, afirmamos que las historias del sureste tienen valor, que merecen ser contadas y escuchadas, y que su legado no debe perderse en el olvido. Con este proyecto, miramos hacia adentro, reconocemos la riqueza de lo local y construimos identidad desde la memoria.We preserve the newspaper La Esquina, recognizing its value as a witness to the experiences, struggles, and achievements of the communities of the municipality of Maunabo and the southeastern region of Puerto Rico. We not only protect the printed paper; we protect the collective memory of a people who have narrated their history from their own margins. We digitize and catalog each edition to preserve this cultural heritage, ensuring that local chronicles, citizen testimonies, historical events, and artistic expressions are available to future generations. By converting these documents into digital archives, we guarantee their permanence in the face of physical deterioration and facilitate their access to researchers, students, and citizens interested in learning about their past. This visual and textual archive serves as a bridge between yesterday and today, allowing the voices of the past to dialogue with the present. By safeguarding La Esquina, we affirm that the stories of the southeast have value, that they deserve to be told and heard, and that their legacy should not be lost to oblivion. With this project, we look inward, recognize the richness of the local, and build identity from memory.
