El estudio de las preposiciones reviste un interés especial por la trascendencia que tiene esta entidad lingüística en la cadena hablada. Es convincente la aseveración de Brøndal de que "Ni l'apprentissage ni l'exercice d'une langue ne vont bien loin si l'on ne possede pas ce sensible instrument". Su alta frecuencia de apariciones establece una red compleja de relaciones y una variedad de valores y matices que ameritan cualquier intento de sistematización, sea este realizado desde un punto de vista exclusivamente sintáctico o desde una perspectiva particularmente semántica. En nuestra Isla, hasta este momento, no se ha llevado a cabo ninguna investigación cuantitativa del uso puertorriqueño de este elemento oracional. El presente trabajo tiene como propósito determinar cuál es la tendencia en el uso de las preposiciones de movimiento entre los hablantes cultos de San Juan. Se realiza un análisis semántico, sincrónico descriptivo de preposiciones según lo revela la norma lingüística culta.
