This research describes the exercise of technological leadership in a Higher Education Institution (HEI). The approach used in the present study was qualitative in nature. The research design consists of a single case study, as a unique phenomenon was investigated. The semi-structured individual interview, the focus group interview and document analysis were used as techniques to collect and triangulate information relevant to the research topic. The selection of participants was intentional. The chosen informants had or could provide the necessary information to answer the research questions. The main informants had a direct relationship with the exercise of technological leadership in the Higher Education Institution (HEI) to which they belong. For their part, secondary informants were invited certified active professors who are part of the different faculties and schools of the university under study. The findings of this research result in a description of how technological leadership is exercised in the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus. Considering aspects such as strategic planning, strategies for the integration of ICT, institutional factors, and challenges it faces in integrating technology.
Similarly, the findings were the result of the researcher’s analytical-decision process by presenting the informants' voices through selected citations. It is important to note that some meanings were identified in the technological leadership that allowed us to determine if there is a digital culture in the Rio Piedras Campus. In conclusion, this research shows that it is not an easy task to educate new generations, especially when they are digital natives, and are used to accessing digitized information and not just printed on paper. Given the current global crisis that we are experiencing due to the coronavirus pandemic, it would be pertinent in the future to carry out research on how educational organizations handled the situation in record time while maintaining continuity of service.
